Company history
Leading the way for you since 1946
Gebrueder Markewitsch GmbH was founded in 1946 by Johann and Andreas Markewitsch. At first, the company focused on clearing war damage in the city of Nuremberg and transporting construction materials into the city. Driven by the post-war economic boom, capacity was quickly expanded and operations shifted to cement transport using special silo tipping vehicles.
In 1964, the company entered a new field – mobile cranes. Rapid progress followed: the first lattice boom mobile crane in 1964 was soon followed by the first telescopic crane in 1967. Further milestones included the first 125-tonne telescopic crane in 1978 and, in 1986, the first 300-tonne telescopic crane in Franconia. In 1992, the first 500-tonne telescopic crane marked another major step in the company’s development.
Alongside technical progress, management soon placed a strong focus on safeguarding quality standards, becoming the first company in the heavy-load sector in the region to introduce DIN EN ISO 9001. After a continuous period of growth, the company has developed into a leading provider of crane operations, heavy-lift services and assembly logistics. Today, the Markewitsch Group operates multiple branches and subsidiaries across Franconia, with a workforce of more than 300 employees.
